new toys

Over the past 2 weeks Jono and I have acquired some pretty fun new toys.

the digital camera
(Ady's early anniversary gift)

the golf clubs
(Jono's early anniversary gift)

and the foam top surf board
(both for us)

Looking forward taking lots of pictures, hitting lots of golf balls, and surfing some waves this summer.

calling all angels

Friday night Jono and I got to go to the Angel game, thanks to his brother Jeremy. It was a late birthday present for Jono and we got to enjoy a night at the baseball field. It was Jono's 4th game this season but it was my first. We loved watching the game and spending the night with family and friends! Thanks again Jer!

Here is part of the Big Bang Friday firework show. Enjoy!

The Last Lecture

Jono and I finished reading The Last Lecture by Randy Pausch Saturday night. We love reading books together and for this one we read a couple chapters before going to bed every night. We laughed. We cried. But most of all we came to treasure life more and learned the importance of accepting the cards we are dealt. It was fun to read Randy's message of following our childhood dreams and we loved his perspective he chose to take when he found out about his cancer. It was a great read and now Jono and I are in the middle of watching his last lecture on the internet. It is a truly inspiring story.

the taunting hummingbird.

The other night we let Rico outside to play. He likes to roam around our apartment but will usually stay within 50 yards and comes back every now and then to check in. Some of the things he likes to do on these escapades is climb trees, follow/annoy the neighborhood cats and dogs, and hunt everything including little flies, leaves, and lizards (he has actually caught and brought all of these things into the house to show off what a good hunter he is). I don't know why he insists on following the dogs because when he gets up to them he puffs up and starts hissing. If you don't like 'em, why do you run up to them?? Well anyway, after he ran up to a little dog that was going on his nightly walk, of course he started hissing and I was right behind him and tried to grab him but he ran up the tree next to him. I wasn't worried, he's climbed trees before and been okay. Well, he kept climbing higher and higher. Jono and I we realized there was a little hummingbird flying around the tree and Rico was trying to get to it. At this point I am hoping Rico is not dumb enough to go jumping out of the tree to try to catch this hummingbird. The little birdy just kept flying around Rico, seriously a foot away from him. You can just tell that the bird was teasing him...and he wouldn't leave! While we were watching him a little boy came up with his mother and said, "Is that a cat in that tree?" We said yes it was. He responded, "Well you better call 9-9-1 so they can come get him down!" He was so cute! His mother corrected him by telling him the correct number was 9-1-1, and reassured him that the little kitty would be ok. It was getting darker and of course Rico's not going to come down when there is a bird flying around him. So Jono and I had to walk away back to our apartment where we watched Rico finally decide to give up on the hummingbird and make his way down the tree. Here is a picture of the event.

As you can see, Rico is in the upper right hand of the picture and the little hummingbird is in the lower left hand. I circled him so you can see him better.

sorry jono...

I think I need to work on my spray-on suntan lotion skills a little more. This is what Jono's back looked like when we got home from the beach last Saturday....

I guess I could just spray on the burned areas next time we go so the color of his back can even out. And if it helps at all I missed a few key areas on my shoulders as well. Practice makes perfect I guess...

I'm free! I'm free!....Dang it.

Last week when I was driving home with Rico in the car, he decided he did not want to stay in his cardboard pet carrier any longer. So he pushed his way out of the box and roamed around the car, crying the whole time. The next morning I had to go babysit my nephew Jaxson and I brought Rico with me. And on the way to my parents he decides to push himself out of his box again, and roam around the car. Of course the more he broke out of his box the more the box got ruined so it would be easier for him to get out. I even tried putting him back in it and holding the handles at the top, but he still managed to get out.

So I bought a bit more sturdier carrier today for him. Yep, the hard plastic box with the steel bars door on the front. Let's see you get out of this one Rico!

all things rico.

this is one of my favorite videos of him.

and yes, at the end of the video Rico got a little frustrated and decided to climb up my leg.
...that expains the scream.
this was what he was trying to get.

lazy days...

it's crazy that he used to be this small...
About 2 Saturdays ago I went to Target to pick up some stuff. And of course, I had to go into the $1 section cause they can have some good stuff in there! Sure enough, I found a leash for Rico. I have been wanting to see if he would walk with one for a while, but I didn't want to spend the money at a pet store. But sure, I'll take a $1 leash.

I got home and tried out my new investment. Here's what happened.

let's just say it wasn't a hit.

he likes climbing screens...

if you notice we closed the window so he wouldn't climb it and he still managed to climb to the top with about 2 inches of screen...

as well as trees.

Even though he can be a little crazy sometimes, we still love him.
